We kept looking up
How the birds of Siolim, and the canopy they live in, shaped Tellado Villas.
We kept looking up.
The birds were always there, moving through the treetops of Siolim, disappearing into the canopy and reappearing against the sky.
We wanted to get closer to that feeling. Not to watch the landscape from a distance, but to be inside it: to live at the height where the trees begin to move and the light changes through the day.
Suspended in the landscape
Tellado Villas, Siolim was designed by Jugal Mistri of JMA (Jugal Mistri Architects) around the idea of being suspended in the landscape: a floating deck that places you among the trees, and a sweeping parabolic roof that gives the structure movement.
Not to watch the landscape from a distance, but to be inside it.
The challenge was turning something that felt weightless into something solid and real. A floating deck still has to carry people. A curved roof still has to keep out a Goan monsoon. Every idea that felt effortless on paper had to be worked through in structure, detailing and execution.
The goal throughout was to do it without losing the poetry of the original idea.
The trees, from inside
Once the architecture had taken us to the sky, the interiors had to follow. Framed through windows, reflected in glass, softened by changing light, the trees are a constant presence.
Rich textures and subtle detailing bring warmth to the clean geometry, and make the house a tranquil place to be.
